MARCH 8, 2021: BYAC Tiger Sharks Compete at the 2021 CYSL Short Course Winter Swimming Championship
(March 8, 2021) Port Royal, SC: The 2021 Carolina YMCA Swim League Short Course Winter Swimming Championship was held February 26-28, 2021 at the Lakelands YMCA in Greenwood. Twenty-five BYAC Tiger Sharks swimmers qualified and competed in individual swimming events at the meet.
Two BYAC swimmers, Lily Bostwick and James Stone, turned in stellar performances going undefeated in all of their races. BYAC placed fifth overall with eleven teams competing in the meet.
In individual scoring, Lily Bostwick dominated earning 1st place in 15-18 Girls 100-Yard Freestyle, 200-Yard Breaststroke, 200-Yard Freestyle, 50 Yard-Freestyle, 100-Yard Breaststroke, and 500-Yard Freestyle. James Stone placed first in 15-18 Boys 200-Yard Butterfly, 50-Yard Freestyle, 200-Yard Freestyle, 100-Yard Butterfly, and 100-Yard Freestyle.
The YMCA swim team program is a fun and rewarding experience. Swim team members are instructed on the correct technique in all four competitive strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly), experience teamwork, make new friends, and complete drills and workouts to improve their skills, endurance, and fitness.
All swimmers will be evaluated by coach to confirm minimum skill level is met.
The Beaufort YMCA Swim Team has 3 practice groups based on swimmer ability. Coaches will evaluate all swimmers to determine if they meet the requirements and assign the appropriate practice group. Swimmers not meeting minimum requirements are encouraged to enroll in the Swim Strokes – Stroke Development class to improve their technique.
The Wardle Family YMCA Tiger Sharks Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. Participation in swim meets is highly encouraged in order to hone competitive swimming skills and track progress. Financial assistance is available. Due to COVID-19 we are required to make some changes to our practices. This includes having fewer swimmers in each lane and time between groups to disinfect the pool deck. .
Due to ongoing COVID-19 and Town of Port Royal face covering ordinance, everyone age 5 and up entering the YMCA must wear a face covering or mask. They are not required while exercising or swimming but should be worn when otherwise moving throughout the building. Due to ongoing COVID-19 must following current YMCA’s “Phase Guidelines” and keep social distancing of at least 6 feet at all the time.
